Quartu Bike Festival Special Edition

The "Quartu Sant'Elena Bike Festival - Special Edition" will take place on November 9, 2024, at the area n. 10 of the park of Molentargius with entrance from Via Trieste to Quartu Sant'Elena from 9.30am to 5pm.

It will be a cycling race of type Gimkana open to the categories C21 and ID, Mini Biker and young (from 4 to 12 years).
Special Edition because exceptionally the race will also participate children with disabilities (physical and intellectual) that use the special bicycles as tandems, tricycles and handbikes.
It will be open to all cycling clubs in Sardinia and has been approved and included in the regional calendar of the Italian Cycling Federation.
The circuit will comply with federal implementing regulations.

The sporting event is of particular importance as it is a totally inclusive event, where people with disabilities will confront other people with and without disabilities. They will have to face the same trials differently, in a twinning which will remove barriers and any disadvantage.
The test involves a series of difficulties relating to various technical skills, to be passed in sequence.
The tests will be carried out in a combined form by an athlete with twin disability to one without disability, who together, will form a team. Both athletes will perform the same skill tests, but the athlete without disability at the end of the course gimkana will sprint 50mt. The tests will be held in succession, first the athlete with disability and immediately after the one without disability. The result of the test will be determined by the sum of the time taken by both participants that will form the team score.

At the end of the event all participants will be awarded a medal and the top three in each discipline (traditional tandem bike, tricycle and handbike) will receive a cup.

PROGRAM

In the morning, the tests of the athletes of categories ID and C21 will take place.

In the afternoon there will be tests of athletes from different clubs of Sardinia with FCI who will run the trials in twinning with the athletes of categories C21 and ID and then those who will face the trials individually.
