LESSONS AT THE ROMAN VILLA
The Roman villa of Sant'Andrea, built in the imperial age, is a rare example of house built by the sea, probably used as a summer residence, although spa use and fish farming activities are not excluded.
In the 16th century, a terrace was built on the villa to support a coastal tower that was demolished in the 1960s.
The structure is made of opus vittatum mixtum consisting of two courses of bricks alternating with two of tuff. On the west side, remains of the wall facing and rooms of the villa are visible.
The building material used is made up of limestone tuffs and bricks bound with lime and hard conglomerate with medium and small inclusions. Among the finds, a column base and a fragment of a male marble statue were recovered, depicting Hercules, the deity venerated as protector of the house.
We will visit it guided by the archaeologist Patrizia Zuncheddu.
