Carcangiolas Tower

Carcangiolas Tower

According to the historian Giovanni Francesco Fara, the tower was built in the 16th century at the time of the Spanish occupation. The structure, in limestone and granite, has a truncated cone shape. The remains of the tower, which collapsed and poured into the sea, rise a short distance from the shoreline.

From the position of the Carcangiolas tower, reused during the last world war, it was possible to see on a clear day, to the west, the towers of Mezza Spiaggia, del Poetto (known as Torre Spagnola), Sant'Elia and, to the east, that of Cala Regina.

The tower partially collapsed on 23 December 1979 due to a storm, and today it lies on its side, now overcome by the force of time and the sea
